Final Project

its finished! its critique time and people are done rushing to get their final projects completed. for my project i decided to make a calendar and used images i found to be fitting to the month, or the mood of the season. while putting together my calendar i did occur some difficulties and issues, such as running out of black card board, for i had purchased a packet of both black and white board, but it didn't contain enough black and when i realized this it was too late to turn back. for the cover i used a picture shot for my quality of light assignment because i diffused light through calendar pages, which makes for a very fitting (in my mind anyways) cover, even if nobody can figure out what it is a picture of :P

Quality Of Light

ok folks, here's the post for assignment #4: Quality Of Light. Again in shooting this i felt somewhat limited in time & props, but thats mostly due to severe procrastination on my part of many other things that needed to be taken care of. The result is an exploration of similar angles with drastically different lighting. In working with such a large quantity of photos (about 80 for myself) at approximately 23 MB per picture (for *.tif's) and 15 MB per RAW file; disc space quickly became an issue on the computer. With transfer times of over half an hour each (from camera to computer & from computer to ipod & ipod to computer) it has been very time consuming, not to mention Adobe Bridge on my computer didn't show to have an option of making a contact sheet. Thanks to my sheer determination and shiny new ipod nano :P this assignment shall be finshed within a reasonable amount of time. I explored some different lighting conditions found in my own room, using different lights and different light bulbs. i even explored into light diffused through some different callender pages.

Lipkin Roll

In shooting the lipkin roll, i spent a solid amount of time taking images with Karl, my ceramics teacher. for the most part i don't edit myself before i get the pictures off of the camera, i'll take a quick look on the preview and then adjust my camera settings and get a new picture to have a new different picture, and sometiems i will bracket just to see what the differences are in post-camera work. so in response, i didn't do to much different with the lipkin roll as opposed to how i normally shoot, except paying less attention to the screen on my camera (which was easy to do because for the most part i had my camera really high up on my tripod.. to the point where i would have to stand on a tall stool just to look through the lens.

(possibly gonna post pictures later... if i feel like it

Self Portrait assingment #1

in shooting for this asignment, i found some things difficult. On one hand i had just acquired my new camera, so in shooting this assignment it was a real trial stage in just learning the camera because i had never worked with anything like it before. fortunately enough i caught on quick and was able to capture many immages that i shall find invaluable in the future. In actually sticking to the "self portrait" aspect of the assignment, i had some difficulty in the conceptual phase. when i normally think of a self portrait i tend to think of a picture of one's self, and in working with a camera, i'm not to fond of being infront of the lens and would rather be working from behind it. also, one of the biggest aspects in my life is mountain biking, which is what i really wanted to be shooting for the self portrait, and as many of you know now, i didn't have my bike to photograph. instead i made do with what i had, and i feel i accomplished this assignment very well despite the lack of my bicycle.
